Michigan Quantum Dominance Program (MQDP)

The Michigan First Movement operates the Michigan Quantum Dominance Program (MQDP), a strategic statewide initiative to establish Michigan as a national and global leader in quantum technology, computing, sensing, communications, and applications.

MQDP leverages existing federal and state grant funding, including National Quantum Initiative programs, U.S. Department of Energy, National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Defense, and Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) innovation grants, to attract investment, build infrastructure, train talent, and accelerate breakthroughs.

• Create thousands of high-wage jobs in research, engineering, manufacturing, and commercialization.

• Secure American technological superiority in quantum systems for defense, healthcare, finance, and industry.

Eligible Project Categories 

MQDP is structured to qualify for a wide range of existing grants:

1. Quantum Research and Development

• Establishment or expansion of quantum research labs, testbeds, and centers of excellence.

• Applied research in quantum computing, sensing, communications, cryptography, and simulation.

2. Workforce Development and Talent Pipeline

• Degree programs, apprenticeships, and certifications in quantum science, engineering, and related fields.

• Partnerships with universities (University of Michigan, Michigan State), community colleges, and K-12 STEM initiatives to build a skilled quantum workforce.

3. Manufacturing and Commercialization

• Facilities for quantum hardware manufacturing, component production, and system integration.

• Support for startups and companies commercializing quantum technologies with Michigan-based production.

4. Infrastructure and Ecosystem Building

• Specialized labs, cryogenics facilities, and secure computing infrastructure.

• Collaboration hubs connecting academia, industry, and defense partners.

5. National Security and Strategic Applications

• Projects aligned with defense and critical infrastructure needs (quantum-resistant cryptography, sensing for national security, etc.).
