• Citizenship and Loyalty Requirement: Only U.S. citizens may serve as judges, prosecutors, police chiefs, sheriffs, or high-level law enforcement commanders in Michigan. Preference for natural-born citizens in judicial and top executive law enforcement roles.

• Strict Scrutiny for Foreign-Born Officials: Any foreign-born candidate for judge, sheriff, or high law enforcement office must undergo enhanced vetting for foreign ties, dual citizenship, or divided loyalties. Naturalized citizens must have held citizenship for at least 15 years and renounce any prior allegiances.
