The government’s forced-monopoly healthcare system is crushing Michigan families. The average family now pays more than $20,000 per year in premiums, while deductibles are so high they prevent people from seeking care. Hospitals in the same city charge wildly different prices for the exact same procedure. Competition and choice in healthcare will lower costs for families, drive quality improvements, and increase access. Michigan First will make our state the national leader in providing every citizen with high-quality, low-cost healthcare services, rooted in free-market principles that unleash personal responsibility and reward personal freedom.

Michigan First Healthcare Plan Highlights 

Price Transparency Mandate: Every hospital, clinic, and provider must post clear, upfront cash prices for common procedures and services online so patients know what they’re paying before they go to the hospital or doctor’s office.

Direct Primary Care & Concierge Care: Doctors can offer affordable monthly subscription plans ($50–$100/month) that cover unlimited primary care, relieving patients of insurance headaches for basic needs.

Buy Insurance Across State Lines: Michiganders should be able to purchase health insurance from any state, dramatically increasing the number of plans and forcing local insurers to compete on price.

Health Savings Accounts (HSAs): Expand HSA contribution limits, eligibility, and tax-free options to allow families to save and spend their money how they see fit.

Tort Reform: Cap non-economic damages for malpractice suits, create expert screening panels, and explore other reforms that lower doctor liability insurance costs and reduce defensive medicine practices that increase healthcare bills.

Stop Medicaid Fraud & Over-Expansion: Crack down on waste, abuse, and fraud, tighten eligibility verification, and explore innovative block-grant models that give Michigan more flexibility.

Protect the Vulnerable: Preserve a strong safety net for low-income families, seniors, veterans, and people with pre-existing conditions through targeted subsidies and high-risk pools to ensure no one is left behind.
