Michigan First will make Michigan energy independent. A Michigan that produces more homegrown energy than it uses, at affordable prices that families can count on. A Michigan not at the mercy of foreign dictators, a balkanized and unreliable grid, or radical green mandates that spike costs and plunge families into darkness. Our country’s natural resource bounty – oil, natural gas, nuclear potential, hydropower, and responsible renewables – will create Michigan energy dominance that lowers bills, brings high-paying jobs, and ensures our sovereignty.

No more: Michigan is hostage to global energy price swings, over-reliance on foreign energy, and a craven political class that willfully shuts down domestic production while begging for fuel from hostile nations. Skyrocketing utility bills, rolling blackouts in extreme heat and cold, and reliance on foreign sources that can be shut off at any time are a burden on families, small businesses, and manufacturers. Michigan has the nation’s proven reserves and the technical expertise to lead the charge for energy independence, but extreme regulations and anti-energy agendas have kept us mired in energy scarcity.

Our Bold Plan for Energy Independence

Drill, Mine, and Produce Here: Expand responsible production and exploration of Michigan’s abundant oil and natural gas reserves in the U.P. and elsewhere. Streamline permitting and red tape to bring Michigan energy flowing as quickly as possible, while maintaining strict environmental safeguards.

Revive Nuclear Power: Fast-track construction of small modular reactors (SMRs) and support the restart or upgrade of existing nuclear power facilities. Nuclear energy is clean, reliable baseload power that creates thousands of high-tech jobs, powers our future, and frees us from foreign uranium suppliers.

Upgrade Hydropower and Infrastructure: Modernize Michigan’s existing and abundant hydropower dams and build resilient transmission lines to deliver power more efficiently across the state.

Support Responsible Renewables: Support wind, solar, and biomass power where it makes economic sense. On private land, with local community support, without subsidies that distort the free market or mandates that spike rates.

End Anti-Energy Regulations: Repeal onerous, job-killing regulations and restrictions on pipelines, refineries, and power plants. Replace them with commonsense rules that protect worker and environmental safety, while encouraging domestic production.

Lower Energy Costs for Families: Break up utility monopolies where needed, open the door to real competition, and eliminate all hidden taxes or fees that hike up bills. Every Michigan family should be able to affordably heat their home, cook their food, power their devices, and fuel their vehicles.

Energy Jobs Boom: Prioritize Michigan workers and companies for all energy jobs and construction. Train our next generation of tradesmen, engineers, and advanced manufacturing workers to fill tens of thousands of new positions.

Grid Hardening and Security: Harden our grid against cyberattacks, physical threats, and weather events. Ensure we always have power, come what may.

The result? Cheaper electric and gas bills, energy exports to neighboring states, tens of thousands of new jobs, and true strategic independence. No more bowing to OPEC, begging Russia for gas, or relying on hostile regimes for critical energy.

Energy dominance means economic dominance. When Michigan controls its own power, we control our own destiny.
