For decades, excessive regulation has chased businesses and jobs out of Michigan, increased the cost of living for families, and given unfair advantages to our competitors in states like Texas and Florida. Michigan First’s Practical Deregulation Plan

Top-To-Bottom Regulatory Audit: Begin with a comprehensive review of all state regulations. Every rule must earn its keep: does it actually protect safety, or just protect special interests and bureaucrats? Outdated, duplicative, or excessively costly regulations will be eliminated.

Sunset Provisions: Regulations automatically expire after 10 years unless proven necessary and cost-effective.

One-In, One-Out Rule: For every new regulation proposed, an existing regulation of equal or greater cost must be removed.

Raise Small Business Exemption Thresholds: Increase thresholds so that thousands of Michigan small businesses and startups are exempt from the most onerous regulatory compliance costs.

Fast-Track Permitting: Establish expedited permitting approval for critical manufacturing, energy, technology, and infrastructure projects, cutting red tape from years to months while upholding strict safety standards.

Occupational Licensing Reform: End unnecessary occupational licensing that prevent Michiganders from entering trades and professions. We will recognize out-of-state licenses and only impose licensing requirements that directly impact public safety.
